Welcome letter

Dear Colleagues,

I am happy to invite you to the international academic community working with a focus on Otto Jespersen, a household name to all advanced students and scholars of English. The idea of having an international conference on Otto Jespersen's English Scholarship was initiated in 2001 when two Korean academic societies, the Korean Society of History of the English Language and the Society of English Grammar in Korea, merged for a better future. The Conference will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the ELSOK and its predecessors.  In preparation for a successful conference, there have been continuous presentations and publications focusing on the work of Otto Jespersen since 2001,

The Conference will be held in June 2004 at Korea University in Seoul, Korea. Eminent international and domestic scholars are invited to speak at the plenary sessions, and I'm sure you will find the Conference very interesting and stimulating for sharing your work in various fields of English Linguistics.

I hope the Conference will foster scholars to study English linguistics on the ¡®shoulders ¡® of the Giant, Otto Jespersen. I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Seoul in June 2004 and wish you good luck and success in your scholarly pursuits.

With Best Wishes,

Joon-Ho Kim

President

English Linguistics Society of Korea
